Job Description

Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) Field Supervisor to manage a group of 8-10 field interviewers for a research project in the San Francisco and Oakland area. You will work on the field component of a survey where staff will be responsible for listing households and subsequently administering a brief household survey. This 11-month project will start at the beginning of December 2019 and will end October 2020.

This is a full-time (35-40 hours per week) 11-month position. Some evening and weekend hours required. Position will require frequent travel around the assigned county(ies) to supervise field interviewers in the field and to conduct quality control activities. (Travel and mileage are reimbursed at federal reimbursement rates.) Candidates must be available for training December 2-7, 2019 and for the duration of the project. Another training for field interviewers will be held in Santa Monica January 6-11, 2020. Supervisors must be available to attend this training, too. Travel, lodging, and meals during training will be paid.


Field Supervisor tasks and responsibilities:

Field supervisors are required to oversee field staff throughout the data collection period and will be required to:

  • Coordinate interviewer assignments and schedules
  • Ensure that field staff are meeting data collection productivity goals
  • Communicate with field interviewers on a regular basis (by phone, via email, and in person) and trouble-shoot in the field as necessary
  • Observe and validate field work to ensure all field interviewers are following data collection protocols and procedures and document the outcome of these tasks
  • Participate in weekly meetings
  • Ensure that field staff have the necessary field supplies, materials and incentives
  • Process field staff mileage and expense reports
  • Perform other project tasks as needed

Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Exceptional time-management, organizational, and record keeping skills
  • In-person experience communicating and/or working with diverse populations
  • Comfortable traveling to and working with at risk and under-served populations in a range of community and neighborhood settings
  • Experience working with community based-organizations or with community leaders preferred
  • Prior survey or social science research experience or coursework preferred
  • Prior experience with household address listing, data collection, or related professional experience preferred
  • BA/BS preferred

Employment Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and a dependable car
  • Willing to complete a background check (includes DMV) and conflict of interest review check
  • Successfully complete mandatory, paid training (held in Santa Monica from December 2 to 6, 2019).
  • Must be able to drive to and from field interviewing sites (located in diverse neighborhoods)
  • Must be able to read street maps
  • Available to work 7-8 hours per day
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Physical Demands:
  • Travel frequently to respondent locations, including other counties
  • Be outside and exposed to all types of weather
  • Be exposed to fumes and odors as might be expected in any outdoor environment
  • Stand, walk, and climb stairs
  • Communicate through speech and listening
  • Read text verbatim from a tablet or computer screen
  • Transport a laptop and tablet, and materials weighing approximately 12 pounds
