Job Description

On behalf of the RAND Corporation, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking Part-Time School Based Interviewers to work on the Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI), evaluation study funded by the Wallace Foundation. The PSELI study will focus on the effectiveness of SEL programs and practices, and on the alignment between schools and afterschool programs. 

This is a national effort occurring in six communities across the United States and this position seeks a school based interviewer in each community.  

This is an hourly paid position and is expected to require approximately 50 hours, which will be spread across several weeks in February/March 2019; weekly hours will vary.  The hourly pay rate begins at $20 per hour, and is commensurate with experience. Mileage and tolls (if applicable) reimbursement will be provided if travel between multiple school sites occurs on the same day.


As a School Based Interviewer, you will: 
  • Attend required virtual trainings (approximately 4-8 hours split across several trainings) on interview and focus group methods, interview protocols, audio recording, and data management in January  2019
  • Conduct in-person interviews and focus groups with elementary school and afterschool instructors and administrators
  • Use own laptop and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) daily 
  • Work collaboratively with the RAND project team to complete project goals
  • Provide personal, reliable transportation to and from the various school sites

Project Schedule:
  • Data collection for 2019 is slated to occur during February/March 2019 (the data collection window will be set with each community and occurs for 4 to 6 weeks, starting as early as February 2019 and ending as late as March 29th 2019)
  • Tulsa data collection window is: February 19th - March 13th, 2019

Requirements of Part-Time School Based Interviewers:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Prior experience conducting interviews for research purposes required
  • Qualitative research training preferred
  • Organized, professional, thoughtful, thorough, and able to problem solve on site
  • Disciplined research practices with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to pass required background check and fingerprinting process prior to the start of training

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent local travel to participating locations
  • Communicate through speech and listening
  • Read text and effectively communicate study expectations to respondents
  • Transport any necessary study equipment and materials (laptop, charger, audio recorder, etc.) weighing approximately 5 – 10 pounds depending on your assignment
  • Be exposed to fumes and odors as might be expected in varied environments
