On behalf of RTI International, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a survey research Field Supervisor to work on the first of four cycles of data collection on government-sponsored research study call the Point of Sale for Tobacco Evaluation (POSITEv) study. The FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (FDA-CTP) is conducting the Point of Sale study measure awareness of and exposure to FDA’s point-of-sale campaign among adults and the campaign’s impact on outcome variables of interest.  Data will be collected in 30 counties across the United States.  After screening by mail and in person, the primary outcome evaluation will consist of four longitudinal in-person and online questionnaires over 24 months (approximately every 7 months). In addition, interviewers will assist the respondent in downloading a smartphone app for additional data collection. Data from this evaluation will be used to gauge campaign awareness and examine the statistical relationships between exposure to the campaign and the outcome variables of interest among current smokers between the ages of 25 and 54.

Position Description
The Field Supervisor (FS) position is intended to provide quality control, production management, and Field Interviewer (FI) support and oversight. The FS will help recruit, train, coach and supervise FIs, perform administrative duties related to the project, monitor and manage productivity, costs, and work quality. This is a full-time position which will begin in August 2018 and last through October 2018.

As a Field Supervisor, you will…

  • Interview, hire and retain qualified Field Interviewers (FIs) while providing continued supervision and support of FIs throughout the data collection period
  • Conduct or participate in FI training program as a trainer
  • Prepare FI work assignments to ensure cost-effective field implementation as well as adjust FI work assignments, as necessary, to ensure adherence to project schedule and attainment of established performance requirements
  • Review FI production, time, and expense reports to ensure timely, accurate, and reasonable project charges as well as provide feedback to research associates on their performance, noting areas of strength and areas worthy of improvement
  • Meet performance expectations in areas of efficiency, quality, screening and interviewing completion rates, and schedule while maintaining confidentiality at all times


  • High school diploma, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s degree
  • Success directly or indirectly related to experience in interviewing
  • Successful experience with field data collection activities
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and work with field staff in a role requiring schedule maintenance, problem resolution, quality control, implementation, performance monitoring, and evaluation
  • Ability to serve as liaison between RTI personnel, in-house Headway staff, and field data collectors
  • Availability for overnight travel, as required
  • Personal automobile available for business use, as required.
  • Willingness to accept assignments of varying duration on short notice.
