Job Description

Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a Lab Technician for a contract opportunity in Atlanta, GA, with our partner, a private nonprofit applied science and technology development company.


As a Lab Technician, you will:
  • Develop measurement method for persistent organic pollutants in human biological matrixes including solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and/or gas chromatography.
  • Use automated liquid handling platforms- Gilson liquid handler and Tecan EVO.
  • Sample preparation using liquid/liquid or solid phase extraction (C-18 columns) sometimes in clean-room environment to minimize dust contamination.
  • Use low flow chromatography platforms for clean-up- Fluid Management System (FMS).
  • Coordinate and communicate with Team Lead concerning work flow.
  • Perform bi-annual proficiency testing.
  • Retrieve and transfer samples between laboratories.
  • Perform routine and preventative instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out laboratory duties, i.e. restock supplies, discard waste, eye wash flushes and cleaning
  • Complete safety classes and document in StarLIMS.
  • Backup instrument operators in processing analytical data (integration of measurement peaks).
  • Work safely in BSL-2 lab where potentially pathogenic body fluids are handled.
  • Work safely in laboratory where organic solvents and other chemicals are handled.
  • Adhering to the universal precautions with regard to the handling of biological samples and biological waste.
  • Adhering to CDC/NCEH/DLS and CLIA 88 guidelines with regard to laboratory protocols and quality control.
  • Adhering to the CDC/NCEH/DLS policy of treating all data as confidential.
  • Adhering to the CDC/NCEH/DLS and the company's policy of laboratory safety and security.
  • conduct sample preparation using liquid/liquid or solid phase extraction to prepare samples in a clean room environment for analysis on a Mass Spectrometer.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related science with 1-2 years’ experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a motivated and independent self-starter.

Physical Requirements:
  • May be required to perform handling activities with lightweight or easily moved items (e.g. books, file folders, boxes of office supplies, small machine parts, etc.).
  • Perform moving activities for brief periods; operate light equipment; perform repetitive motions for brief periods; confined to a work area.

Additional Information:
  • This is a 6+ month contract
  • 40 Hours per week
