Headway Workforce Solutions is partnered with the University of Michigan Survey Research Center (SRC) to find motivated and persistent part-time Field Interviewers within the greater Providence, RI and Providence County area to work on the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG).

The National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) is a national survey of women and men between 15 to 49 years of age. The survey is designed to provide national estimates of factors affecting pregnancy and birth rates. Additionally, it gathers information on family life, marriage and divorce, pregnancy, infertility, use of contraception, and men’s and women’s health. The survey results are used by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and others to plan health services and health education programs, and to do statistical studies of families, fertility, and health.


As a part-time Field Interviewer with the University of Michigan, you will:
  • Conduct face-to-face interviews in a variety of households and neighborhoods, and be comfortable with all types of situations that may be encountered when screening and interviewing in a cross-section of households
  • Use a tablet PC to conduct electronic listing, screening, and interviewing activities
  • Perform administrative tasks including record keeping, daily transmissions by computer, daily submission of time and expense data, reconciling travel advances, and attending all required calls/meetings
  • Work 20 hours per week including evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and weekdays
  • Travel up to 60 miles one way, when applicable, when working in the field. The number of miles will depend on the location of the sample

The University of Michigan is a premiere employer offering the following to NSFG field staff employees:
  • Pay rate for this project in the Providence RI and Providence County area is $18.00 per hour
  • Paid training including airfare, transportation, lodging, and meals

Required Qualifications:
  • Work up to 20 hours per week including evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and weekdays
  • Attend an in-person training to be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, August 22 – August 31, 2018

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spanish language skills
  • Ability to travel overnight as needed (6-8 nights)

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to transport up to 25 pounds of equipment and climb stairs while transporting equipment.
  • Regular and reliable access to an insured motor vehicle.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit for periods of time, and use hands and fingers, grasping, reaching, lifting, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
  • Experience and ability to operate a smart phone and or tablet including connecting to Wi-Fi and using/sending email on a mobile device
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
