Job Description

On behalf of RTI International, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a Research Assistant to provide field and administrative support for data collection and other project work conducted as part of the Southern Appalachia Test, Link, Care (SATLC) project. Through SATLC, a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-funded project, we aim to develop and support sustainable local prevention and treatment infrastructure for people who inject drugs in rural North Carolina.

Job Description:
The Research Assistant will be assigned to prepare for and conduct data collection operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The RA will ensure that data is collected according to specific project protocols and procedures, and that assignments are conducted in a professional manner.

This position is full time, Monday – Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, offering $12.50- $17.50/hr depending on experience. SATLC is set to last through July 2019, with a possible extension through 2021. Travel is required for project related purposes, and applicants must have a personal, reliable automobile, and the ability to track mileage for reimbursement.

Job Requirements:

  • Comfortably and respectfully interact with people who inject drugs
  • Accurately and efficiently enter and retrieve data on the project-specific data management system
  • Screen individuals for entry into the study; issue and track documentation related to participants
  • Orient participants to the computerized questionnaire (ACASI technology) and assist participants who encounter technical difficulties with the data collection interface or related computer equipment
  • Perform daily checks for project-specific data accuracy and protocol adherence
  • Promptly report problems with the protocol, the field site, or any other aspect of the study; constructively and pro-actively correct problems in collaboration with their supervisor and other team members
  • Reliably submit project forms/materials, as well as time and expense reports on schedule
  • Make a positive first impression on potential participants inquiring about the study and demonstrate respect and appreciation for all participants
  • MUST maintain a professional attitude and confidentiality at all times
  • Assist with other research duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • High School or GED required; some college preferred
  • Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
  • Experienced using Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Must satisfactorily complete project training program
  • Non-judgmental attitude toward people who use drugs
  • Ability to remain alert for errors in data entry or other procedures, and can take steps to correct issues as they arise
  • Work closely with other project team members, field site partners, and participants to schedule appointments, conduct intake, coordinate biological sample collection, and ensure that participant questions and concerns are addressed
  • Ability to meet performance expectations in areas of efficiency, quality, response rates, and schedule

Physical Requirements:

  • Effectively communicate through speech and listening
  • Able to carry project-related equipment (approximately 15 pounds)
  • Adapt to various factors including social environments, temperature, weather, and odors which may be encountered during data collection
