Job Description

Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a Sample Logistics Technician for a contract opportunity in Atlanta, GA, with our partner, a private nonprofit applied science and technology development company.


As a Sample Logistics Technician, you will:
  • Assist, organize and carry out organization of sample logistics laboratory to aide and assist in the overall process flow of work.
  • Participate in the procurement, storage, and shipment of supplies (e.g., vacutainers) necessary to perform exposure assessment studies planned or on an emergency basis.
  • Availability for on-site participation in field studies as needed.
  • Participation in quality control activities as it relates to labeling and dispensing of quality control pools consisting of serum, urine, or whole as matrices into various vials and tubes
  • Participation in the maintenance of quality control pools, insertion of pools into analytical runs as needed and record keeping regarding type and quantity of pools available.
  • Maintain current data files both hard copy and electronic on specimens, supplies, and quality control pools.
  • Adhering to strict confidentiality as it relates to all data.
  • Adhering to the Universal Precautions regarding the handling of biological samples and biological waste.
  • Adhering to CDC/NCEH/DLS guidelines regarding the inventory and disposal of chemicals and sharps.
  • Adhering to CDC/NCEH/DLS and CLIA ’88 guidelines regarding laboratory protocols and quality control.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree medical technology, chemistry, biology, medical technology or equivalent with 3 years of related experience as a qualified Technician
  • Experience handling clinical specimens (Blood, Urine, Serum) to include sample collection and/or processing and aliquoting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, word and databases programs with in a computer network environment. Experience using bar code printers and associated databases is preferred.
  • Experience in following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to include: Clinical sample collection, sample receipt, accession, aliquoting, barcode labeling, sample tracking and storage
  • Experience with the International Air Transport Association’s regulations for domestic and international shipping of potentially infectious and diagnostic specimens
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write clearly and produce basic sample collection protocols.
  • Must have flexible working hours
  • Must be non-smoker.

Physical Requirements:
  • May be required to perform handling activities with lightweight or easily moved items (e.g. books, file folders, boxes of office supplies, small machine parts, etc.).
  • Perform moving activities for brief periods.
  • operate light equipment.
  • Perform repetitive motions for brief periods.
  • Standing for long periods of time; confined to a work area.

Additional Information:
  • This is a 5+ month contract.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Current Phlebotomy certificate is preferred.
